I'll mount the ATEM at the 0.5 RU position so there's airflow under and above the ATEM, and have the fan unit suck air out from the rear, and block off as much of the open 1RU space remaining in the back of the rack to get as much airflow as possible. I just ordered a Sanus 1RU fan from B&H and it will be interesting to see if it helps or not. Maybe BMD should have put intake and exhaust vents on the front and back panels respectively for cooler ambient airflow in restricted rack airspaces where there is little side airflow available. Running a looping clip in a multimedia player really gets it super hot even faster. It's definitely very hot to the touch after just few minutes of operation, particularly on the left side. Because of the ATEM 1M/E 4K's loud fan noise, the ATEM is encased in a 2RU case (open in front and back). In all cases the ATEM has to be power cycled which is sometimes impractical, particularly in the middle of a worship service. Symptoms include sudden and complete loss of ethernet control, white vertical lines showing up on the HDMI multiview monitor, and sometimes the entire unit locks up and even the front aux buttons don't work. Our older 1M/E's and several ATEM TS's have never had any thermal problems. We have an ATEM 1M/E 4K and it is overheating frequently - at least twice a week.

A second laptop that was also running the switcher software kept losing its signal to the switcher. We also lost two of our SDI inputs at two separate times for about 20 minutes then suddenly reappeared. The 4k version is enclosed which I figured may be a problem when I unboxed it for the first time.Ībout an hour before it froze, I noticed the titles on the mulitview glitching/flashing which I thought was strange. We never had this issue with our other 2ME (non4k) switcher. We pulled the plug for 1 minute and the unit stayed online throughout the end of the stream.

I put an ice pak on top of the unit and a brought in a small pc fan underneath. We pulled the plug for 20 seconds and the switcher was back. The host announced we would lose video for about a minute. Again, we were on a wide shot when it froze and it was 4 in the morning so viewing was at its minimal. Rebooting the laptop with the switcher software made no difference. We are located in a soundstage and it was a little warm due to the amount of people in the room for the event, however by hour 18 there maybe 10 people, 2 in the control room when we go the "No Device Connected" error on the software. Then we had this issue just last week during a 24hr live stream with the 2ME 4k. We stayed on that until end time then just pulled the plug. Luckily it froze while we were on a wide shot. The first time was near the end of a 4 hour livestream. Our 4k unit has frozen on us on two separate live events. Looking forward on your thoughts about this.

The Conditions were not great: It was 35☌ but windy and we opened all doors of our OB Van. After 20 seconds everything worked well again. The mixer looked like it was online (PGM in the little screen / lights on the buttons) After 5 Seconds of no change i decided to reboot the Atem. The 4 K studio was online and all but we couldnt switch and on the multiview all signals were gone. After 5-10 seconds the connection was working again and worked for hours.Īfter 7 hours airtime we had a blackout. That happened 4-5 times and in the switching software said „No device connected“ and we couldn t export graphics as well. From time to time the network broke down: We lost the connection from switching MB to the mixer and graphics Macbook as well.

Basically we were live for 10 hours with 2 hours TV on air Time. We had another Macbook on which we were doing live graphics in Photoshop and exported them into the mixer pool with Alpha Channel into tof the 4K Production Studio. We ran the 2 mixers on a gigabit switch and used Macbook for switching. commercial blocks for Livestream and TV we used 2 mixing layers: One for on the ground TV and our own stream and another for SNG TV distribution. 14 Days ago we went to the wonderful Basque country to stream the Volcoms Bowl-a-rama skateboarding competition.
